Health NZ flu vaccination campaign: Practices may see increased demand

Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand is sending a direct message to around 300,000 people on Friday 21 August, encouraging them to consider getting their flu vaccination because of current winter pressures and high levels of influenza-related illness. 

Te Manawa Taki is among the regions being prioritised. The campaign is targeting regions experiencing current pressure across general practice, ambulance and hospital services, rather than being based specifically on flu vaccination coverage.

This is to give practices a heads up as the campaign may result in increased enquiries or vaccination bookings from patients.

Most people will receive an SMS, with email being used where Te Whatu Ora does not hold a mobile number.

The SMS message advises people that flu is continuing to cause significant illness this winter, and it's not too late to get vaccinated. People aged 65 and over are also reminded that their flu vaccination is free.
